review: love me if u dare a.k.a jeux d'enfants
i always looove french movies. it's innovative and more creative than standard hollywood movies. its vibrant colors, quick cuts & camera swoops, childlike fantasy sequency & brilliant animated effects... they are all a nice break that u can never get from any other movie.

unlike other romantic comedies, this one explores love as a potentially destructive one. the whole movie is about a game of dares & counter-dares, played by julien & sophie since childhood with a colorful tin merry-go-round as the tool. in order to hold onto the box, they must complete a dare.

it all began when little sophie was teased by her friends just because she is polish and on a dare from her, julien disengages the parking brake in the school bus, causing it to rock down the street without driver with all the kids inside. so the game continues... julien dares sophie to curse at the teacher, sophie dares julien to take a piss in front of the principal in his office. whatever one dares, the other must do.

and the game follows them into adulthood. they haven't changed one bit, except that now their game of dares can do a lot more damage and go too far than when they were children. each pushing the other to greater challenges as a way of testing the bond between them. they feel emotional tie for each other but they never really verbally expressed it. they both are totally obsessed with each other but they create obstacles for themselves & decide to keep their relationship at the platonic-friends level & their dares include years spent not talking to each other. as adults, they marry other people, but never forget their secret soul mate.

the ending is truly unique. it's wild & creative. final words of wisdom: never play "bury yourself in a cement block". :)
